The racing started with Singapore’s typical tricky weather and unpredictable wind shifts to really challenge the sailors and test their skills. The desire to win was clear was clear from athletes across all 3 race courses and the tension was building as the breeze filled in.
In the Optimist class – the biggest fleet of all 6 classes, Singapore’s 2015 World Champion Jodie Lai opened her assault with a second place, and she was looking ready to claim another win to consolidate her good form. Her teammate and 2015 Team Racing World Champion Daniel Hung was also looking hungry, scoring a third place finish. But the first bullet of the day belonged to Singapore’s Lee Riane.
