The penultimate day of racing at the 17th Asian Sailing Championship was scheduled to kick off at 1100h Monday 25 June at the National Sailing Centre, Jakarta, but overnight rains and cloud covers saw fickle breeze that kept the sailors off the race track, in the early hours.

On Monday, dark gloomy skies greeted the sailors, the breeze swung, gained and lost pressure – keeping the fleets postponed ashore. The Race Committee went out as scheduled and in the early afternoon decided to call the sailors on the race track, in anticipation of completing the series for all classes.

Racing could only be completed on the Optimist and windsurfing courses, whilst the Race Committee sent the Laser, 470 and the 9er sailors ashore after waiting for over three hours for the breeze to settle down.

In some of the classes, the leaders were so far ahead, that they did not have to race but there were plenty of sailors who had the talent to unseat the Silver and Bronze medallists in most of the classes and they returned ashore disappointed.

With no racing, the last day jitters will continue to the Asian Games 2018, when the top sailors from Asia meet again in mid – August 2018.

As per reports received from Indonesia Asian Games Organising Authority (INASGOC), over 184 sailors from 25 Asian nations are registered to compete in the 10 sailing events, setting another record for the highest turnout at a sailing event at the Asian Games 2018.

We will be back later tonight with the final results and a snapshot of the Prize Giving Ceremony which is scheduled at 1900h tonight.
