A mix of seasoned campaigners and some youth teams who have recently made the transition to the Olympic classes lined up at the first ASAF Sailing Cup and the 2016 KFC Langkawi International Regatta Perdana in Malaysia from 27 – 31 January 2016. Teams from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Korea, Chinese Taipei, Philippines, Hong Kong and Indonesia competed.
The tension on the water at National Sailing Centre, Langkawi was fully loaded as racing across the Laser Standard and radial fleets prepared for the next big regatta of 2016, the ASAF Asian Championship 2016.
Many podium finishers from four days of racing in Langkawi will feature on the ASAF Asian Championship 2016 in 35 days' time and Langkawi can be viewed as a marker of what is to come at the last qualifier for the Olympic 2016.
The Korean pair of Kim Changju and Kim Jhoon won the 470 title. In the Laser Radial, Kamolwan Chanyim of Thailand beat Khairuneeta Afendy of Malaysia to claim the Gold. In the Laser Standard, Khairul Nizam B Mohd Afendy of Malaysia beat Keerati Bualong of Thailand to win the Gold.
