Things are starting to settle down at long last in what is turning out to be an amazing regatta with each day throwing up different weather patterns.
Racing today started on time at 1430 hours and competitors blasted out to their respective starts from the shore in a building 15 knot breeze that looked set to cause some upsets.
As it turned out it was another great day for the Malaysians all round, consolidating where necessary and gaining places where they were needed. In today's first race in the Optimist Class an adverse current on the line much of the fleet were pushed well back. A small group of boats, including the ever present Malaysians, as well as Hong Kong, India and Oman, started well at the favoured end an powered off in the short chop up the first beat.
Takao Otani (JPN), the Jury Chairman said of the event so far; "The venue is fantastic, the conditions on the water were challenging that were same for everybody, and on the shore the organisation is impeccable. Everyone in Abu Dhabi should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved."
So going into the penultimate day, it's now up to the Malaysians to consolidate their lead and pull of a famous victory at the ASAF Youth Sailing Cup Final at Abu Dhabi. The Medal Races are scheduled for early afternoon start.
