ASAF together with Oman Sail, have successfully delivered the Olympic qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics for Asia and Africa.
The event was the continental qualifier for 6 classes of Olympic Sailing, the Laser and Laser Radial, 49er and 49er FX and RSX Men and Women. The event saw very encouraging participation with more than 100 entries received from more than 20 nationalities of Asia and Africa. All sailors got a tremendous opportunity to compete and in a fair competition held over the week, to determine, who will represent Asia in the Olympics.
ASAF would like to thank Oman Sail for doing a fantastic job in keeping the championships going, without any incident. This being an extremely difficult situation, Oman Sail managed to hold this event at absolutely international level standards, and kudos to them for doing this.
All health care protocols and strict safety norms were adhered to and implemented to perfection during the championships.
The event witnessed some keenly fought races and stiff competition from amongst the Sailors.
World Sailing was unable to send any of its representatives to the event, but ASAF through its Chairman of Events Committee – Capt Ajay Narang (Retd) along with the local organization led by Mr. Joe Rafferty, successfully ensured that the event was conducted seamlessly and in an absolutely fair manner with all the Race Officials performing their role with due diligence and all the Sailors competing in a fair manner during the regatta.
We congratulate all the participants who have qualified for Tokyo.
President of ASAF Dr. Malav Shroff, thanked Oman Sail and everybody involved in the successful conduct of this Championship and Congratulated all the sailors who have qualified for Tokyo and said that he was looking forward to their performance at the Olympics and wishes them to perform their best and keep the Asian flag flying high.
