We are looking forward to welcoming the fleet to Oman and one of the first international events post-Tokyo 2020. As well as being a major continental championship for the Asia region, this is also the first step for many on the road to Paris 2024.”
Piotr Oleksiak, International Windsurfing Association manager, said, “The introduction of the Formula Foil this year makes the Asian Windsurfing Championships 2021 an interesting proposition going forward. We are delighted to be returning to Oman, which has become the example to follow for the growth of sailing in Asia. This is an important event for the sailors in all classes, as both a return to action and a chance to compete for the title of Asian Champion in the three classes. We look forward to enjoying Oman’s traditional warm hospitality at a great new venue in Khasab, Musandam.”
The Asian Windsurfing Championships 2021 will be held at the Atana Musandam Hotel, Musandam, the northernmost exclave of the Sultanate of Oman. Its spectacular landscape has seen the area become known as the ‘Norway of the Middle East’ due to the imposing mountains rising from the sea and its clear blue seas reminiscent of the Scandinavian fjords, known locally as khors.
The city of Khasab, just two hours’ drive from Dubai and a short flight from Oman’s capital, Muscat, has the potential to become Oman’s next thriving tourism hotspot. The 2021 Asian Windsurfing Championships will shine the spotlight on the wonderful scenery, rich marine life and growing capacity to hold large scale events and cater to visitors seeking a unique experience in the Sultanate of Oman.
