One week to the start of the 26th Edition of the Dubai to Muscat Offshore Sailing Race.
With one week to go to the start of the 26th edition of the Dubai to Muscat Offshore Sailing Race, crews are busy readying themselves and their boats for the event. In the original years, border controls were not as strict as today and boats were able to pass freely from one country’s waters to the other. In our modern world, one of the major roles the organisers have faced is liaising between the authorities on both the UAE and Omani sides of the route, and we are delighted once again to have the full support of all official governmental agencies, as well as support from GAC in Muscat, as clearing agents for customs and immigration.
In addition to the paperwork required for both the boats & the crew members, skippers will be preparing their boats for safety scrutineering, to obtain approval that all required safety equipment is in place and up to the international standards for this category of race. Scrutineering will be undertaken by internationally recognised race officers who will arrive in the country this week.
A new addition to the race this year, is the inclusion of a double-handed division specifically designed for skippers who are experienced with the event & are looking for a new challenge. International sailing regulations for double-handed offshore racing require participants to hold additional safety qualifications and therefore the organisers and host club Dubai Offshore Sailing Club, will be running an Offshore Personal Survival Course and RYA accredited Sea Survival Course, this weekend, in conjunction with Hamble School of Yachting from the UK.
